About Us

John and Brendan Ready grew up on the water in Cape Elizabeth, Maine where they were introduced to the lobster industry at an early age. By the time they were 9 years old, they were each harvesting lobsters from their own boats and traps. With the hands on experience they gained on the water, they wanted to explore the business end of the industry, each pursuing business degrees. John graduated from Northeastern University in Boston with a dual concentration in Entrepreneurship and Marketing and Brendan with a concentration in Marketing from Stonehill College in Easton, Massachusetts.

In June 2004, John and Brendan opened Ready Seafood on the waterfront in Portland, Maine. John and Brendan’s passion for the lobster industry and highly completive nature has transformed their once small lobstering business into a world class operation, servicing wholesale customers with live lobster anywhere in the world.

Growth:

Today Ready Seafood has grown to over 50 employees, featuring a very adept Shipping and receiving department, a well-organized administrative department, and an experienced sales team who all strive to continually meet or exceed the customer needs. Our exceptional crew runs three packing and grading shifts daily, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Ready Seafood sources many millions of pounds of live lobster ranging from the Gulf of Maine to the Canadian Maritimes. Several trucks daily deliver packaged lobster to Boston and New York to ensure only the freshest best quality lobster.

Ready Seafood’s state of the art, live lobster holding facility in Maine has capacity to hold 180,000 pounds of live lobster in refrigerated seawater allowing fulfillment for unlimited sized orders all throughout the world. Ready Seafood maintains a hub in Southwest Nova Scotia with over 200,000 pounds holding capacity as well to provide consistent supply year round.

Ready has built a second to none traceability program that allows them to follow every lobster from where it was harvested to where ever it ends up in the world.

Future growth and affiliates

John and Brendan are still hands on and always looking for ways to strategically grow their team and wholesale lobster business. They now offer Fresh Maine Lobster direct to consumer with an online sales platform through their sister company, Catch a Piece of Maine. John and Brendan have also partnered with a group of successful business leaders within their community to create part of a frozen division called Maine Seafood Ventures that offers frozen lobster products to customers around the world.
